About Me and Maryland Seniors Golf 100
I have played golf off and on for over 50 years, starting at a municipal course in a small town in central Illinois, where I didn’t finish my first three rounds because I ran out of balls. I started working for the federal government in 1977 and relocated a few times before moving to Maryland in 1985 and met a few friends and neighbors that played golf. We played regularly in the greater Washington area and I worked my way down to a 13 handicap.
In 2016, work demands made me take a break from golf, though I intended the break to be short. It ended up being closer to nine years and when I resumed playing in November 2024, my game had indeed suffered, every club in my bag was at least ten yards shorter and inconsistent and my handicap was closer to a 21.
During 2025, I played close to 35 rounds at two courses and began thinking about playing other “famous” courses. As I began researching other courses to play it became apparent there were literally a hundred non-private courses in Maryland (as well as more than 50 private courses – many famous in the golf world), most of which I’d never heard of. I began to think about trying to play every one of them and that’s when the idea of Maryland Seniors Golf 100 was formed. Here I’ll write about each course that I visit and how I played it. It’s not about playing competitively or betting on the outcome of a round or even a stroke, it’s about enjoying the game of golf and a “good walk spoiled.” You’re welcome to just follow along and read about my journey to play all of the them, or you can join and I’ll help document your own journey. Of course, you don’t need to join to play all of the courses as the list is available on the site, but we’d love to meet you.
By the way, while I’m relearning to love the game of golf, I’m also learning a new skill – website design and administration. Please bear with me. If you have questions, comments or suggestions, feel free to reach out to me at [email protected]. Hope to see you out on the course.
Enjoy the round! Clayt
