Two days before my last round at Bowie, I thought I’d go back to Blue Heron Golf Course in Stevensville and see if an executive course might help me find my mojo again. I thought I had already hit bottom and was starting to rebound but I’m thinking/hoping that my bottom was at Blue Heron. I also wanted to capture Blue Heron on video so I shot the carnage in beautiful 4K. Thankfully I was playing by myself.
The train that I thought was the light at the end of the tunnel showed up right away. The parking lot was full as there was a women’s league on the back nine but the first tee was wide open. I pulled out one of my new yellow Callaway ERC ChromeSoft balls and told it my goal was to still be together after 18 holes. To make sure we would stay together, I was going to play conservatively and tee off on the par 4 with a 5-iron just to get out into the fairway. Teed it up a little high to make sure I’d catch the sweet spot. A couple of practice swings felt pretty good. I stepped up to the ball and made my first stroke sending my new friend over the trees and into the roadway running parallel down the right side. That’s how my day would go, shooting a 26 over 89.
Highlights: One-putted on the first and fourth holes. Had three pars. Only three-putted four times.
Lowlights: Lost two balls out of bounds and four in water hazards contributing to the ten penalty strokes. Had four double bogeys, two triple bogeys and one quadruple bogey.
